Hello from gorgeous weathered San Francisco Bay Area.
Hope you all are enjoying this weather.
I had an opportunity to volunteer at a local High School AP Japanese class this morning.
They were holding group speech presentation, and I got to be a judge.
Most of all I wanted all students to continue to enjoy learning Japanese so I had a special mind set not to be too strict about judging.
Despite of my worries, those kids did such awesome jobs, and every one of student prepared, practiced and well presented their speech. It was such a wonderful experience to listen to what they discovered and learned through out presentations. It is very fun to hear about Japanese culture from their perspective.
I was asked to select one group for a special award. I wanted to give awards to ALL groups but unfortunately I could pick only one.
Before I gave the award to one of the group, I told them that each of them did a wonderful job!
I could not imagine myself giving a speech in English when I was a high school student. It is not easy to give presentation in front of the people , and especially in foreign language.
Now I get to do my presentation in English in many different occasion, but I truly admire those kids that can actually do such great job at their age!
I remember I volunteered in my oldest son's kindergarten class on September 11, 2001. As you can imagine on that day it was very difficult to go on as normal day, but being able to volunteer and surrounded with innocent and thriving kids did help me to feel so much better on that day.
Today was somewhat similar to that day since I had a little up and down lately.
Children really are our future. I really hope they will continue to have passion to learn and become successful.

最近ブログのＵＰが滞り気味になるほど、多忙にしておりましたが、
皆様、健やかにお過ごしですか？
今朝は近隣のハイスクールの日本語クラス（ＡＰ Ｊａｐａｎｅｓｅと言って大学の単位が取れるハイレベルのクラスです。）にスピーチの審査員としてボランティアに行って参りました。
今日は「日本の夏」をテーマにしたグループスピーチで各グループ、日本の夏について、
とても丁寧に沢山リサーチしているのが分かるハイレベルのスピーチばかりで、正直言って驚いてしまいました。
お盆の事、キュウリとなすで作る馬と牛のお話し。
夏祭りでの出店のお話し。
夏休みに欠かせない、ラジオ体操の話まで・・・・・
どのお話しも皆、とっても流暢な日本語で話してくれました。
私が高校生の頃に英語でアメリカの文化について、クラス全員の前で話すなんて・・・
想像も出来ません。
なので、審査すると言うよりは・・・すっかり応援エールを送り続けるモードで
皆さんのスピーチを拝聴致しました。
担任の先生から１グループを特別賞に選んで下さいと言われ、とても悩みましたが、
賞の発表の前にはクラス全員の皆さんがとても熱心にリサーチしていた事。難しい日本語の言葉を沢山使っていた事。発音の練習を一生懸命やっている事。何よりも、とても緊張するであろうクラスの前での発表をしっかりと出来た事などを褒めて、褒めて、褒めちぎりました！
だって、日本語をこれからも大好きでないと、もっと勉強したいって思わないでしょ。
私だって、英語を今の状態で話が出来る様になるまで、（今でも日々努力ですけど・・・）
どれほどの努力を重ねて来たことか・・・・・
ここまで話せる様になるまでに、どれほど沢山の友人に助けてもらったり褒めてもらったりした事が、原動力となったか・・・・・などと考えると、クラスの子達を褒めずにはいれませんでした。
今日は着て行ったお洋服の色も少し気にして・・・・「いかにも審査員」風よりも・・・
親しみ感が出せる様な色のお洋服を着て行って参りました。
威圧感とかあったら、余計皆さん緊張しちゃうしね。
先生がすっかり「黄色」のお洋服だったので、私も至ってフレンドリー感は出せたかな・・・。
